David Miliband MP today addressed a conference aimed at stressing the importance of teacher training.

Held at the Early Years Excellence Centre in Hebburn, and organised by South Tyneside Council and the Teacher Training Agency, the conference
Highlighted the importance of working in partnership to recruit and train new teachers.

Delegates including more than 60 head teachers, teacher training providers and representatives from local education authorities and higher education establishments from across the North East heard how teacher training can help improve teaching and learning in schools.

David Miliband, MP for South Shields and School Standards Minister, opened the conference with a keynote address on the value of teacher training to the Borough's schools.

David Miliband said "There has never been a better time to come into the teaching profession. The quality of teacher training is increasing all the time as the links between schools and training providers are linking.

The better skilled our teachers are, the higher the standards in our schools will be.

I am pleased to see that South Tyneside Council are taking this issue so seriously"
