Trevor Phillips Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality, will be visiting South Shields today. Mr Phillips will be the star speaker at tonight's 3rd Annual South Shields Lecture, organised by David Miliband MP. Previous speakers have included former Labour leaser Neil Kinnock and internationally renowned film director Lord David Puttnam. Speaking on the subject of 'Taking Advantage Diversity', Mr Phillips will be sharing his experiences of campaigning on issues of racial and religious equality, gained both in his work with the Commission for Racial Equality and as a serving member of the Greater London Authority. Educated in both the Caribbean and England, Trevor Phillips has campaigned on equality issues throughout his adult life, recently initiating the BBC's successful 'Windrush' season of documentaries and dramas, which detailed Black History in Britain. David Miliband said "I am delighted that Trevor Phillips will be giving tonight's Annual Lecture, and am looking forward to hearing him speak on what I am sure will be an interesting and highly relevant topic. It is a testament to success of past speakers that we have been able to attract someone of this standing to give our 3rd Annual Lecture" The 3rd Annual South Shields Lecture will be held at South Shields Town Hall, Westoe Road, from 7 pm this evening. |
